A Las Vegas man died in a plane crash in Minnesota while scattering his father’s ashes during a flight, police said. Lee Cemensky, 58, was riding with pilot Douglas Johnson, 61, on Aug. 28 in what police described as a “homemade” and “ultralight” plane that crashed in a wooded area, according to CBS affiliate KLAS -TV. Police received reports at 6:44 p.m. that Johnson’s plane did not reach its destination, according to a statement from the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found the bodies of Chemensky and Johnson at 8:36 p.m., according to the release. Lt. Craig Katzenberger of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office told KLAS-TV that deputies who responded to the crash scene learned that Cemensky was spreading his father’s ashes. According to an obituary from Koop Funeral Home, Cemensky’s father, Leo John Cemensky, 80, died at his home on Aug. 7. The crash is under investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, officials said.
