The Canadian musician took the stage at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California as part of his “After Hours til Dawn” tour. But midway through Can’t Feel My Face, he stopped his set and walked off stage, before returning to tell the stunned audience he had to “stop the show”. “I can’t give you the gig I want to give you right now,” he continued. The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, said he wanted to make sure everyone got their money back, adding that he would put on another show “really soon”. “I want to come out and personally apologize, I’m so sorry, I love you so much,” she told the crowd. Fans tweeted how she appeared ‘on the verge of tears’ as she left the stage. The 32-year-old later posted a message on his social media channels apologizing to his fans, telling his 16.6 million Twitter followers: “My voice went out on the first song and I’m devastated. “I felt him leave and my heart dropped. “I deeply apologize to my fans here. I promise to make it up to you with a new date.” Furious fans questioned how the Blinding Lights singer was able to deliver his speech if he had lost his voice. One tweeted: “His voice sounded so good making that announcement. “She sang a lot of the show and it sounded fine. So you’re telling me there’s no way she could have forced it? That’s ridiculous.” But others criticized members of the public who booed the musician and insisted he deserved the support of his fans. One said: “These so called ‘fans’ are very entitled. I hope Abel has a speedy recovery.” Another added: “It was shocking to watch. He looks so sad and the people are rotten.” The Weeknd’s hit song Save Your Tears was the fourth best-selling single of 2021, following two musical offerings from Olivia Rodrigo with Ed Sheeran topping the chart with Bad Habits. Meanwhile, Blinding Lights, which went viral on TikTok, knocked Chubby Checker’s The Twist off the top of Billboard’s greatest songs of all time chart. According to his tour website, The Weeknd is next to perform at the Rogers Center in Toronto on September 22nd. No details yet on a rescheduled show in Los Angeles.
