After 66 years in the community, Todd’s RV and Camping is closing. The business is family run and has been in business since it first opened in 1956. The Peachland campground will close the evening of September 6 to make way for a residential development. Last month, the Peachland District council unanimously approved a form and character development permit for the Beach Avenue project, which is now being marketed as Crystal Lake Okanagan Residences. The scheme will see half a dozen six-storey terraced buildings built behind four single-family bungalows. In total, the development will include 46 residential units with prices starting at $1 million. Terrace units include spectacular views of Okanagan Lake and, upon buyer’s request, individual plunge pools on each patio. The pools are approximately 10 by 12 feet in size. District staff said all parking requirements for residents are being addressed on site, with 15 public on-street spaces to be added. Campground manager Graham Todd says it’s been a tough weekend and it will be hard to say goodbye. “I didn’t expect it to be too hard. We’ve been saying goodbye to a lot of customers all summer, but this is the last one which is hard,” he said. Todd says he sees many of the same people visiting each year. Some have even been coming for 50 years straight. “We had a client spend her 57th birthday here.” Todd’s grandparents Jean and Jeff were the original owners. “There are actually six owners. Me and my brothers, and I’m the youngest of the six. Three of them are in their 70s and it’s time to move on.” Todd says he’s looking forward to doing his own camping and RVing. “66 years of serving the public is a long time, and we’re ready to get out there and see what it’s like to be an RVer,” he added.
