It happened at the intersection of Yonge and College streets just before 4:30 a.m. Toronto police said a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle heading south on Yonge Street.
Toronto Paramedics said they transported a 40-year-old man to a trauma center with serious injuries. He died a short time later, according to police.
“There was a man with serious injuries who was hit at the intersection,” Insp. Lori Cranenburg told CP24 on the scene. “He was taken to hospital but has since succumbed to his injuries and been pronounced dead.”
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, Cranenburg said.
“The driver did not remain at the scene and police are asking if there are any witnesses or anyone with a dash cam (video) if they could contact Traffic Services,” Cranenburg said.
Yonge Street is closed in the area as police investigate the fatal incident.
