Ontario Provincial Police told CP24.com that two vehicles collided in the highway’s eastbound collector lanes near Nielsen Street just before 8 a.m.
Police said a white sedan rear-ended an SUV before losing control, striking the barrier and resting on the embankment next to the freeway.
The female driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no details on her identity yet.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.
The freeway’s eastbound pickup lanes are closed at Markham Street for the investigation, which is expected to last several hours.
