Former Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has slammed Lewis Hamilton as “aggressive and offensive” after the driver’s verbal outburst during the Dutch Grand Prix. The Briton was furious at the decision to field team-mate George Russell and put him on faster tires while Hamilton was in first place. The result of the move meant that Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was able to catch up to Hamilton and eventually overtake him to win the race. The Silver Arrows driver told his team: “I can’t believe you hurt me like that, I can’t tell you how hopeful I am. “That was the biggest fight.” This outburst led Villeneuve to claim that the attitude shown by Hamilton was “unbecoming of a champion” in his Formule1.nl column. It’s good that he apologized, but that’s not befitting a champion. After everything the team has done for him, you shouldn’t talk to them like that. Hamilton eventually apologized to his team and said he continues to have “100% faith” in the team. Hamilton is yet to win a race this season and is currently 6th in the drivers’ championship He said on Instagram: “I didn’t get it right last week and we didn’t get it right today (Sunday) but we win and lose as a team. “We’ve been through worse. Everyone is doing their best and that’s all we can do. “We will get up and win again. I have 100% faith in this team and where we are going.’ The result meant Verstappen collected his 10th win of the year, which extended his points lead in the drivers’ championship to 109, while Hamilton remains winless this season and sixth in the standings.
