Lisa Cash, 18, and her younger siblings – her eight-year-old twin brother and sister Christy and Chelsea Cowley – died at their home in Tallaght, a satellite town of Dublin, in the early hours of Sunday. Andy Cash, 24, appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara for a special sitting of the criminal courts in Dublin on Monday night. Garda Robert Witty told the court the defendant was cautioned and charged with three counts of murder at 7.51pm on Monday. Whitty said Cash responded “No comment” to each charge. McNamara remanded Cash in Cloverhill Prison to appear in court via video link on Friday, September 9. Earlier, a large crowd gathered outside the home in Tallaght to hold a vigil in memory of the brothers with family and friends. Balloons were released and candles lit along the wall outside the house in their memory as songs rang out in the crowd. Bunches of flowers, teddy bears and candles lined the wall as well as photos of the three of them, showing Christy and Chelsea having their first baptism. Micheál Martin, Thailand’s head of state, offered his “deepest condolences” to their family and said the “terrible tragedy” had “left the nation shocked and deeply saddened”. Irish Garda Commissioner Drew Harris described the deaths as “horrendous and traumatic”, adding that it was “one of the worst incidents I have heard of or come across in my service”. He said it was “the most horrific and traumatic incident which resulted in the deaths of two children and a young man. Sincerely, the most terrible incident.”
