A wanted violent offender was arrested by police during a routine traffic stop in Kelowna.
On September 2, while conducting traffic enforcement in Kelowna, an officer observed a vehicle traveling with a severely cracked windshield.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as a violent local offender wanted on two outstanding warrants.
The driver was arrested and remains in custody.
He will appear in court on Tuesday, September 6
“These types of interactions exemplify the ongoing efforts of police officers to remove the most violent offenders from our streets,” said Corporal Judith Bertrand, Media Relations Officer for the West Kelowna RCMP.
The driver had multiple criminal convictions and excessive contact with the police.
RCMP say the most serious incident occurred in August 2022, where he was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon in West Kelowna.
Shortly after his release from prison in late August 2022, police say the driver breached the terms of his release order, which raised several safety concerns.
“Initiatives to increase road safety by the RCMP BC Highway Patrol have a direct impact on the safety of our community. In addition to improving driving behaviors, traffic enforcement creates opportunities for police officers to make contact with wanted individuals who would otherwise they may be evading capture,” Bertrand added.
