The incident happened after a dance at the Evangeline Recreation Center in Abram-Village that was part of the Acadian Festival weekend. RCMP Cpl. Travis Gallant said police received a call about an assault around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He said two people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (Maggie Brown/CBC) “I’m really sorry to announce that it is true, there was an incident here,” Gallant said. “The community is in shock.” Gallant said she was inside the recreation center when the incident happened and did not see what happened. He said one of the victims was a volunteer at the festival Tuesday night and Thursday. “He’s an absolutely wonderful person … it breaks my heart,” Gallant said. Gallant said she does not know the second victim, but she does know their wife. He said it was unknown how many people were involved in the incident. “Once we have details and once we get names, we will share that information with the RCMP because we want to help them find the culprits and bring them to justice,” Gallant said.

The daycare is closed after the incident

The leisure center car park is shared with the Pomme et Rinette Education Center car park. The French daycare has decided to close on Tuesday and will likely remain closed for the rest of the week. “Some of our center’s employees and their families have been victims of crime and bullying,” the daycare said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
