The so-called Fairview fire broke out at about 3:37 p.m. and was burning in light to moderate vegetation at a fast rate near Fairview Avenue and Bautista Street. Evacuations have been ordered for Hemet Valley Foothills, South of Thornton Avenue, North of Polly Butte Road, West of Fairview Avenue, East of State Street. Evacuation orders were later expanded to include areas south of Stetson, north of Cactus Valley Road, west of Fairview Avenue, east of State Street.
A care and reception area for evacuees has been set up at Tahquitz High School, located at 4425 Titan Trail. At least one civilian was taken to a nearby hospital with burns to his hands, back and face. Several properties in the 41400 block of Gibbel Road were fully engulfed in flames, with reports of about half a dozen homes completely destroyed. Fire crews managed to rescue several people who were trapped by the flames on Gibbel Street. According to the Riverside County Fire Department website, 33 engine companies, six air tankers and four helicopters have been deployed to fight the fire. This is a developing story.
