Russia is now buying an increasing amount of arms and ammunition from its longtime ally North Korea as it feels the impact of Western sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine, according to US intelligence agencies. Moscow’s purchase list from Pyongyang includes artillery shells and rockets, according to a New York Times report, although recently declassified US intelligence did not detail the numbers Russia bought. Vladimir Putin is expected to buy more from North Korea while sanctions continue, the report added. It comes as the Russian military is reportedly using drones made by Iran, which has led Moscow to suffer “numerous setbacks”, according to a US official. Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelensky said he is looking forward to Liz Truss’s tenure as the UK’s new prime minister. “We in Ukraine know her well – she has always been on the bright side of European politics. And I believe that together we will be able to do much more to protect our nations and prevent all of Russia’s destructive efforts,” he said late Monday. Show latest update 1662441395

Zaporizhzhia NPP one step away from radioactive disaster, Zelensky warns

Volodymyr Zelensky says the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is on the brink of a “radioactive disaster” as he confirmed that the last power transmission line connecting the plant to Ukraine’s energy system has been damaged by further Russian bombing. “Again – this is the second time – due to Russian provocation, the Zaporizhzhia plant is one step away from a radioactive disaster,” Mr Zelensky said late on Monday. Calling Russia a “terrorist state”, Zelensky said that bombing the site of the nuclear power plant means that Russia does not care either what the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says or what the international community decides. Russia is only interested in maintaining the situation for as long as possible, Mr. Zelensky said. He stated that as long as Ukraine controlled the nuclear plant, there was no risk of radiation damage. “As soon as Russia came, the worst scenario imaginable immediately became possible. This requires an international response – from the UN to every normal state,” he added. Arpan Rai September 6, 2022 05:56 1662439795

He added that Ukraine and Britain “will be able to do much more to protect our nations and thwart all of Russia’s destructive efforts.” Arpan Rai September 6, 2022 05:49 1662437925

Boris Johnson asked “How else can I help?” when Russia attacked Ukraine – Zelensky

Volodymyr Zelensky thanked outgoing British leader Boris Johnson and said there are “truly millions of Ukrainians ‘thank you’” for the outgoing leader. “From the first minutes of Russia’s all-out war against Ukraine and Europe, Boris was with us. His first and most important question was always, “How else can I help?” Mr. Zelensky said in his Monday night speech. Stating that ties between their two countries had reached an “unprecedented high” in the past six months, he added: “I want to stress: even before February 24, we always felt that Britain stood by Ukraine. In a few years, we have really managed to bring Ukraine-UK relations to the highest level throughout our independence. “We signed a very ambitious Political, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership Agreement. We have done a lot to strengthen the ties between our societies – economic, social, cultural. We have launched a program to renew the Ukrainian fleet,” Mr Zelensky said, citing achievements made in cooperation with the UK. Arpan Rai September 6, 2022 05:18 1662437011
