UPDATE: 14:15 Roofing work done on the Kelowna Costco building resulted in a thick black plume of smoke Tuesday morning. The Kelowna Fire Department arrived at the scene in the 2100 block of Baron Road just after 10 a.m. The first arriving crews entered the store and gained access to the roof from inside the building. It was discovered that some pressure washing work was being done by a contractor. While filling one of the four machines with gas, the gas ignited, flashed and set the machine on fire. “Workers were able to get some suppression done prior to our arrival. KFD crews completed extinguishing and checked the area for extension. Limited damage to the machine and some stains/chars on the sheet metal on the roof,” said Capt. John. Kelly. No one was injured in the fire. The Kelowna Fire Department responded with three engines, a rescue unit, a ladder truck and a command vehicle with 15 personnel.
