Kwarteng, an ideological ally of Truss, said her government could afford to borrow more to finance supporting households and businesses on their energy bills, but would remain in charge of public finances. read more He has been business and energy minister since January 2021, previously holding a secondary role in the ministry, while also working in the Brexit ministry.
