Scott Graham’s two daughters say their father was last seen at the Canadian embassy in Madrid on July 15. He had visited the consular service after losing a bag on a bus containing his phone, passport and medication to manage his kidney transplant.
“It was very hard to look those people in the eye who were the last to see him and say, ‘You know, there’s not much we can do,'” said one of Graham’s daughters, Kayza.
“It’s very, very painful,” he said.
She and her sister Georgia, along with her partner Georgia, have spent the past seven weeks searching for the Victoria-based elderly man. They traveled to Spain in August, where Georgia and her partner James Player are staying.
The trio has documented three visits to the embassy in Madrid – in addition to visits by Spain’s national police, area hospitals and homeless shelters – trying to trace Scott’s possible footsteps.
They feel they are left alone to investigate.
“I am appalled at the lack of accountability that has been taken,” Georgia said.

EMERGENCY SIGNS

Graham would be on day four without the necessary medication until he visited the embassy in Madrid. His daughters say without it, his body will reject the transplant and show signs of cognitive decline, which they believe happened during his visit to the embassy.
“There were so many things, so many details that should have alerted the embassy that this was an emergency,” Player said.
Family members claim the embassy failed to accompany Graham to a nearby hospital, even though he does not speak Spanish. failed to contact family members through an email Graham provided on paper as an emergency contact when he failed to show up for a second meeting. and failed to document certain details of his case, among other concerns.

Missing Victoria man Scott Graham was reported missing in Madrid on July 15, 2022. (Submitted) Graham apparently couldn’t remember his passwords to contact his family at the time. “I would call it a complete failure,” Player said. “And frankly, I would go so far as to say that if the embassy had recognized that this was an emergency, an oversight, he might not be missing today.” Global Affairs Canada acknowledged an interview request from CTV News but did not respond in time for publication. A Facebook group called Help Find Scott Graham is taking tips and sharing updates. The old man’s family says they must persevere in their search. James and Georgia plan to leave Madrid for San Sebastian, where they believe Scott could have gone to find his bag – weeks after a bus left with him and without him on board. “We are three artists leading an international search for missing persons,” Kaiza said. “Who can and will help us?”
