Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel following Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League defeat by Dinamo Zagreb, with the club now set to open talks with Brighton manager Graham Potter. Tuchel led the Blues to their second Champions League triumph in 2021 but has struggled so far this season, with a third defeat this week following Premier League defeats to Leeds and Southampton. A statement from the club on Wednesday morning read: “As the new ownership team completes 100 days since taking over the club and as they continue to work hard to take the club forward, the new owners believe the time is right to make this transition. ” Chelsea moved quickly and were given permission to open talks with Potter, who has impressed since taking over at Brighton. The 47-year-old is of course open to discussion, and has a release clause in his contract. This clause also decreases with each year of his contract, but contains a few variables and is not as simple as a simple fee. That’s why, if a deal is struck, the potential fee would be £16m.
